India has a growing network of universities, research institutes, incubators and commercial organisations with fermentation capabilities. Yet information about this ecosystem is often fragmented, making it difficult for startups, researchers and industry to understand what infrastructure exists and how it can be accessed.
This project brings together publicly available information to better understand India's biomanufacturing landscape—from fermentation facilities and downstream processing capabilities to emerging regulatory pathways for fermentation-derived food products.
Rather than creating another directory, the goal is to organise scattered information into practical ecosystem intelligence that supports better collaboration, research and innovation.

Early research suggests that India's fermentation ecosystem extends far beyond dedicated food-tech facilities. Capabilities exist across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, industrial biotechnology, research institutions and shared innovation centres.
